Ronald McDonald House Nashville

December 9, 2022

NASHVILLE, Tenn.—Dec. 16, 2022—Rio Grande Fence Co. of Nashville (RGF) donated, furnished, and installed a 433’ total linear foot, 6’ height, cedar wood fence with PostMaster Plus steel posts and a 39’ total linear foot, 6’ height, Trex Composite Fencing dumpster enclosure with a double swing gate for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Nashville for RGF’s Annual Service Project on December 9, 2022. Every year RGF chooses a Nashville non-profit in need of perimeter security and provides material and installation at no cost to the organization. RGF closes its office for the day and every employee participates on site. Normally performed on Good Friday and known as RGF’s Good Friday Service Project, the genesis of 2022’s project was a site visit last spring in conjunction with AGC Middle Tennessee to examine requested repairs at Ronald McDonald House.

“When I saw the repairs needed to the existing fence, my immediate thought was to upgrade the repair request to a complete tear down and installation,” Derek Smith, Chief Operating Officer of RGF, said. “Rather than on Good Friday, I asked if they would be willing to wait for an entirely new perimeter fence and additional dumpster enclosure later in the year. When they agreed, the 2022 Good Friday Service Project became the Annual Service Project,” Smith said. “We also chose to upgrade the materials from what was there.” The PostMaster Plus posts eliminate warping, twisting, and rotting that occur with traditional wood posts and the cedar pickets provide a longer-lasting and lower maintenance fence. Trex Composite Fencing resists rot, termites, and mold and is made with 95% recycled materials and eco-friendly manufacturing processes. “This fence means a lot to the Nashville Ronald McDonald House as well as our families because not only does it provide a physical boundary of safety and security, it reminds families that this is a home and a place where they can feel comfortable and safe while they’re focused on their kids in the hospital,” said Chelsea Edwards, House Manager of Family Services, Ronald McDonald House Charities Nashville.

RGF believes in demonstrating through its actions the faith and ethics that Lee Roy Smith founded the Company upon in 1958. Its roots in and commitment to the greater Nashville community extends through its Annual Service Project. “This year’s project provided an amazing reminder of who we are and why we strive to live out the principle that we should use whatever gifts we have received to serve others,” Smith said. “I did not know until we announced the project that two of our employees’ families spent time at Ronald McDonald House Charities of Nashville prior to joining us.
